Super Noah!

Every Monday since about October I have been doing pre-school lessons with little Noah Gustafson. (Their family used to live in Roseau and go to our church, but they moved to Bemidji about a year ago....I have been very blessed to get to see them each week!) Mostly Noah and I work on letters....learning each of the letters, the sounds they make, and how to write them. (Noah is 4 years old.) The hardest part is letter recognition. Noah is a pretty smart kid though and has done very well! Here are a couple pictures from my last day with Noah. We played a fishing game where Noah "fished" for letters and then had to tell me which letter it was.
This video, I think, is so funny! I had to really hold myself back from really bursting while recording it. :)
Noah always has a lot of funny comments, too! When I picked Noah up from daycare he told me that his leg hurt from running too fast. Later when we were working on letters I asked, "Do you remember this letter's name?" Noah replied, "No, my leg made me forget!" :) Oh yes, and this blog title is "Super Noah!" because that is many times what Noah refers to himself as....not just Noah, Super Noah!

Hoot 'N' A Holler

You must be in awe at the amount of blogging this week, eh? Enjoy it while it lasts. :) Finals start next week Friday, so life is gradually getting more and more hectic. I wanted to share this email I got today, though. I'm not a real big fan of forwarded email messages and this little write up kind of makes fun of them. (I guess it doesn't "kind of" make fun of them, it's whole purpose is to make fun of them.) I got a real kick out of it and was laughing by myself out loud! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I just want to thank all of you for your educational e-mails over the past year.

Thanks to you, I no longer open a public bathroom door without using a paper towel.

I can't use the remote in a hotel room because I don't know what the last person was doing while flipping through the adult movie channels.

I can't sit down on the hotel bedspread because I can only imagine what has happened on it since it was last washed.

I can't enjoy lemon slices in my tea or on my seafood anymore because lemon peels have been found to contain all kinds of nasty germs, including feces.

I have trouble shaking hands with someone who has been driving because the number one pass-time while driving alone is picking your nose (Although cell phone usage may be taking the number one spot).

Eating a Little Debbie sends me on a guilt trip because I can only imagine how many gallons of trans-fats I have consumed over the years.

I can't touch any woman's purse for fear she has placed it on the floor of a public bathroom. Yuck!

I must send my special thanks to whoever sent me the one about poop in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope that needs sealing.

Also, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason.

I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl (Penny Brown) who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time.

I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.

I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me, and St. Theresa's novena has granted my every wish.

I no longer eat KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers.

I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day.

Thanks to you, I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an email to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.

Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains.

I no longer can buy gasoline without taking someone along to watch the car so a serial killer won't crawl in my back seat when I'm pumping gas.

I no longer drink Pepsi or Dr Pepper since the people who make these products are atheists who refuse to put 'Under God' on their cans.

I no longer use Saran Wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer.

And thanks for letting me know I can't boil a cup of water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face...disfiguring me for life.

I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS.

I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.

I no longer receive packages from UPS or FedEx since they are actually Al Qaeda in disguise.

I no longer shop at Target since they are French and don't support our American troops or the Salvation Army.

I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for or which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica , Uganda , Singapore and Uzbekistan .

I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe.

Thanks to you, I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my butt.

And thanks to your great advice, I can't ever pick up $5.00 dropped in the parking lot because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg.

I can no longer drive my car because I can't buy gas from certain gas companies!

If you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on your head at 5:00pm this afternoon and the fleas from 12 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a hairy hump. I know this will occur because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbor's ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's beautician...

Have a wonderful day...

Oh, by the way...

A German scientist from Argentina , after a lengthy study, has discovered that people with insufficient brain activity read their e-mail with their hand on the mouse.

Don't bother taking it off now, it's too late.

Musical Shares-2

Here's another: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t2q0XDDf90

Musical Shares-1

Sometimes I think I'm way out of the loop with music, like what's new, what artists are starting to come out into the light, etc. So, thanks to you who have shared artists, songs, etc. with me! Since that's how music gets around, word of mouth, I thought I'd share an artist/song that I have really been enjoying. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xXT71Qt104

More of the White Stuff (I'm not talking about dandruff)

Well, well, well. Let's see here. It is officially the last weekend in April and yesiree we got another good foot or more of snow. A bit melted today, (Praise the Lord!) and hopefully the rest will melt this week. I didn't feel it necessary to post more pictures of snow, because it looked just like it did a couple weeks ago when it did the same thing. Welcome to Minnesota. I try to look at the positive side of things though, so let's look at the pros in these types of circumstances.

Pros:
-I got to wear my nice winter jacket that I had purchased in Chicago this past February and get more use out of it.
-I got good exercise unburying (that's a made up word) my car.
-Snow angels are fun to make.
-Christmas music can be listened to again.
-My red turtle neck sweater and smartwool socks were thrilled to be pulled out again.
-Good conversations with fine folk that started out with talking about the weather.

Cons:
-we won't go there

Have a good week!

Thrifty Finds

This coming fall I will be transferring to Minnesota State University Moorhead! I'm very excited to be able to live much closer to some of my best friends! I'll actually be living in an apartment with my friend, Leah, and another friend, Ashley, who I don't know quite as well, yet. Leah was telling me how we might need some dishes, so I went out and found myself at the local "Goodwill." I found these fine plates (pictured above) that have matching bowls to go with them! The set of 4 plates and 4 bowls cost me a grand total of $2.00!! I was thrilled. I am a lover of thrift stores, and perhaps you will be, too, after reading this and seeking out the one nearest you.

A Tribute to Leslie Scott

Jenga is by far one of my favorite games. It's super simple. You can play it with people of all ages. You don't have to concentrate super hard (unless you're attempting to pull a very tight block from the stack). When you get tired of actually playing the game you can just start building other random "houses" or creations out of the blocks. For all of this, we have Leslie Scott to thank. Leslie was the inventor of this game and the great lady that decided to share it with the rest of us. (Milton Bradley published the game in 1987.) Want to hear another cool fact behind the game? Well, Leslie Scott grew up in Africa and spoke Swahili. The word "Jenga" means "to build" in Swahili. Pretty sweet, eh? I thought so. (Thanks Google.)
Zach, Sarah, and I all played Jenga while at Dunn Bros. one evening and had a grand time. (I went to CBC with Zach's brother, Alex. Sarah went to CBC with Zach's sister, Sarah. Zach goes to BSU.....small world.)
Guess who?
